Yes, if I were to write about all the experiences of today it would turn into a book! We first went to check out the "ponto de encontro" or in other words, the place where the Rio Negro and Rio Salomão meet. The waters don't blend because of the difference in temperature and the properties of the water. Rio Negro gets its color from rotten leaves and other substances in the water and Rio Salomão gets its orange/golden color from clay and other elements present in the water. Some spots were so defined, it was as if someone drew a line with a pen.
In the afternoon, we stopped to eat lunch in a floating restaurant, fed some monkeys nearby, and then stopped by a floating home to hold an anaconda and a sloth!
we took a tour of the jungle or rain forest or "mata" like our sweet guide Marcio calls it. Washington described to us some of the wonders of the forest. He showed us a tree full of ants, and when you let them cover your hand, they tickle first, then they sting, then you rub them on your hands and they leave a scent that acts as a mosquito repellent.
We also found a cloves tree, a tree full of darts that are used by the indians for hunting, a wintergreen bush, and the best was when Marcio gave me, Tawnya and Brady a larvae to eat that tasted like hazelnut! I never imagined I would eat a bug, but I guess the jungle (or peer pressure?) got the best of me. Marcio made all the girls amazing crowns out of the vegetation and he also taught us how to make them. It was awesome!
