We flew to Salvador yesterday and today we had the awesome opportunity to walk around downtown and the historical center. Before we walked there ( 7 km), we stopped at a lighthouse, Farol da Barra and it had am amazing view from the top. It was great.
One of the places we visited was the Museu de Arte da Bahia. A long time ago this huge mansion used to belong to a slave owner, and then it was changed into a museum. It had a big marble staircase that led to other rooms and in each room there was furniture, dinnerware, paintings, that belonged in centuries past, back when the Portuguese and the Dutch lived here in Brazil.
We were able to visit beautiful churches, and it amazed me how there seems to be one church in every corner in Bahia, some catholic but some from other religions. We went inside a very modern Catholic church, that had a lot of stone and marble, and it contrasted sharply with the older, more gloomy churches.
Not gloomy at all are the colorful homes that exist in the close together buildings, and that are portrayed in artists' paintings throughout the shops. I had a lot of fun exploring the downtown of Salvador.
