We took a tour boat to go visit two islands of the coast of Salvador. Getting to the Bahia de Todos os Santos is always fun because we have to take the Elevador Lacerda (built in 1873), which takes people from the top of the hill where the upper part of the city is, to the bottom of the hill.
The boat ride was fantastic! Not only were we able to enjoy the view of Salvador from far away, but we also had fun on board: we were entertained by a group of sambistas, who provided popular songs to the sound of a tamborine, a banjo and a drum.
The islands were so beautiful! As we approached the islands we were greeted by two helpers on small boats that took everyone to shore, where we enjoyed a delicious lunch. Some of us took a short tour of the local town, and even though there wasn't a ton fo things to see, it was fun to ride on a bus with metal seats and to see the local fort.
Some of the students commented on what a fun summer job this would be, either the musicians on the boat or the helpers on the small boats, because they get to enjoy a great beach, awesome weather and delicious food. The water was crystal clear and the fish seemed to be used to humans because they would come to us and "kiss" our feet. The ride home was similar to the ride there, except that we were able to enjoy the sunset on the boat, and that made it all more special.
